Gandantegchinlen Monastery

Some monks at the monastery.
I've been in Ulaanbaatar for a few days now, seeing the city. For no good reason, I haven't taken many pictures. But I took some at the monastery, which is (I'm told) the biggest and most important Buddhist monastery in the country.
On the left here is Janraisig Datsan, the biggest temple.
The monastery is a complex of temples and libraries and other things. One of the things is a ger inside the complex.
This child ended up in many of my photographs because she was running around so much. She is very cute.
I wish I knew more about Buddhism. I don't know what this is for.
Most of the buildings are yellow.

An interesting thing about Mongolia is how much the landscape looks just like Montana. I can't get over it.

Looking down from the Janraisig Datsan.
For emphasis, a picture from a slightly different location and angle:
Will thought I should have a series of pictures called "Montana or Mongolia?", but since I don't have any pictures of Montana just now it might be kind of boring.

Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures! Yellow buildings are also wonderful in dark winters, and underused color.

Blogger gives me trouble when trying to comment- sentences too dull?

By the way, are people angry at you because your blog has such a cool name? Cornipes is so much for beautiful than ungulate, and more sonic. I can hear little hooves tapping. Hope you are finding success learning to read.
